Dear Charlene, Yolanda, Lynne, Christie Darryal, Gabrielle, Aileen, and Ernestine:

On behalf of the children and families here at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, Child Life Services would like to thank you for your generous donation of toys. They will make nice Holiday Gifts for our patients this year. It was a pleasure meeting all of you. I really appreciate you coming to visit. I hope that we will see you all again soon.

The main goal of Child Life Services is to normalize the hospital environment for children and families through preparation, support, education, and therapeutic play opportunities. Our pediatric patient population, both in our activity rooms and at bedside, is happily utilizing your donation.

Thanks again for your generosity,

Cristie Suzukawa

MARINE ADULT THERAPEUTIC CENTER

In June, 2009, Marine Adult Therapeutic Center began to hire veterans from U.S. Vets on Hindry Street in Los Angeles, C.A. to fill instructor positions. These individuals were responsible for providing training in academic, social, behavioral, vocational and daily living skills for our 101 developmentally disabled adults. Sincethattime, our agency has hired ten (10) veterans representing the military branches of Marines, Air Force, Navy and Army. The Executive Director of Marine Adult Therapeutic Center, Mrs. Ernestine G. Barnes was so impressed with the performance of these employees (veterans) that she hired three (3) individuals for her privately owned transportation company. She also leased a duplex house and furnished it for a supported living home for veterans who are transitioning into a community living arrangement who may be homeless or disabled.

Although the home has been vacant for four (4) months, it is section 8 certificated for veterans who have a VASH certificate. One apartment in the duplex has been earmarked for one (1) veteran, and the other is awaiting a family or two individuals to occupy the two (2) bedroom unit. Both units are fully furnished with all appliances (ie. refrigerator, stove, dining table, living room and bedroom, bar- b que pit, exercise equipment, washer/dryer, etc).

Both units have cable T.V., telephone and internet service. The West Los Angeles EAC also donated a 30 day food supply for the new tenants. These donations, as well as others from the community will certainly assist the veterans in the efforts to re establish themselves. The home is anxiously awaiting tenants to fill this home as soon as possible. Another home is being planned.
