Join us for a 1/2 day seminar designed for HR professionals and business owners. We will discuss nuts and bolts issues on job applications, hiring employees, creating effective written workplace policies including Injury Illness Prevention Plans and Workplace Violence policies, disciplining employees, terminating employees, severance agreements, arbitration agreements, handling post-employment claims like wage and hour claims, unemployment claims, wrongful termination claims, how to avoid litigation but what to do if you wind up in litigation.
We will also discuss employee use of technology in the workplace, including personal e-mails, instant messaging, blogging, and social media outlets like Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and employer's obligations with respect to handling electronic and digital information.
SEMINAR SPEAKERS
Meghan B. Clark, Esq.
Partner at Nordman Cormany Hair & Compton LLP
Ms. Clark handles employment litigation and day to day counseling for employers, and is a partner in the employment group at Nordman Cormany Hair & Compton LLP. Her practice includes a significant amount of appellate work, including recent published decisions in the cases Totten v. Board of Supervisors (2006) 139 Cal.App.4th 826, Wood v. Santa Monica Escrow (2007) 151 Cal.App.4th 1186, Community Development Commission v. County of Ventura (2007) 152 Cal.App.4th 1470 and Wood v. Santa Monica Escrow (2009) 176 Cal.App.4th 802.
Meghan is the Vice Chair of the East Ventura County Employers Advisory Council, a member of the Board of Counselors for California Lutheran University, a member of the Board of Directors of the Ventura County Bar Association and past board member of the California Young Lawyers Association. She frequently hosts the morning roundtable series at Nordman Cormany Hair & Compton and presents seminars to local groups of employers.
Brook J. Carroll, Esq.

Mr. Carroll litigates business, real estate and employment disputes, including: a trust and will contest involving an estate valued over $2 million (multi-week bench trial), breach of contract and fraud action against major manufacturer of executive jets (bench trial), malpractice action against an insurance broker (six-week jury trial), claims for interference with easement rights (two one-week bench trials), partnership dispute involving FEHA claims (three-week jury trial), property damage claims relating to mold (one-week jury trial), multi-million dollar claim by a former agent against a life insurance general agency (and published decision in court of appeal, Acosta v. Kerrigan, 150 Cal. App. 4th 1124 (2007) (eight-day arbitration) and a Consumer Legal Remedies Act claim that settled favorably during trial (two-day bench trial).
Mr. Carroll was selected for the 2009 edition of Southern California Rising Stars, Los Angeles Magazine, 2009 and in 2008 by the Pacific Coast Business Times as one of the top "40 Under 40" in 2008 for business people/professionals in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. Brook serves on the Board of Ventura County Trial Lawyers Association and is its treasurer for 2010.
Gannon Elizabeth Johnson, Esq.
Associate at Nordman Cormany Hair & Compton LLP
Ms. Johnson is a member of Nordman Cormany Hair & Compton's Employment and Labor Law and Litigation Groups. She is primarily involved in class action wage and hour cases and the defense of other employment-related claims in the courts and before various administrative agencies. Additionally, Ms. Johnson consults with employers and other litigants regarding the scope of and duties imposed by the new Electronic Discovery Act.
Ms. Johnson is a member of the Ventura County Bar Association and the American Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division. She also volunteers with the Ventura Unified School District, various animal-related charities, and Relay for Life.
