1. Workers' Compensation: Past, Present, and Future

Rene Thomas Folse, JD, Ph.D., is currently employed by Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, LLC and has more than 35 years experience as an attorney and is also a licensed psychologist. His expertise in the workers' compensation arena makes him a popular, sought-after speaker. His presentation will focus on all aspects of workers' compensation law.

2. Sexual Harassment Certification Training

Linda Pierce, JD, is the Area Senior Vice President for Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. She will be discussing sexual harassment in the workplace and touch on discrimination and employment practice liability.

3. What To Do When Unions Come Knocking

Thomas Lenz, is a partner in the law firm Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud, and Romo and is the head of its Traditional Labor Law Department. He is one of the most active attorneys representing companies before the National Labor Relations Board. He will discuss past and current practices regarding unionization.

4. Top 10 Things Employers Do to Get Sued

Robert L. Wenzel is a partner in the law firm Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud, and Romo whose expertise is in labor and employment law. He will focus on the major mistakes most companies make that may result in their employee filing a lawsuit.

5. Wage and Hour Law

Jim Potts is the CEO of Potts & Associates, a broadbased employment consulting firm. Mr. Potts will explore the most common issues regarding wage and hour law and make recommendations to protect companies from potential liability.

6. EAC Chair and Coordinator Meeting

This meeting is for EAC Chairpersons, EAC/EDD Coordinators, and all interested EAC board members to learn about EAC and CEAC operations as well as the EDD/CEAC/EAC partnership and EDD Services.

7. When Generations Collide at Work - Perceptions vs. Reality

Jacquelyn Thorp, MSHR, SPHR-CA, is the founder and CEO of Train Me Today!, an HR Coach LLC, with 25 years of experience as a Human Resource professional and in recent years, a professor at CSU Fullerton. Ms. Thorp will discuss perceptions of the generations and then adjust those perceptions with the reality behind each. This workshop includes a fun look at historical views of the generations as well as advice for employers, workers, and job seekers.

8. EAC Benefits/Employment Law/FAQs

Bruce Matlock, an attorney with more than 30 years of experience in Human Resources and employment law, has been the CEAC Management Hotline Consultant for more than 5 years. He provides representation and consultation to employers throughout California. Mr. Matlock is an adjunct professor at the University of Redlands School of Business Law teaching Human Resource Management and Business Law. He will discuss EAC membership benefits including CEAC Management Hotline FAQs (EAC member Hot Topics) and employment law update.

9. I-9, Immigration & IMAGE Program

Paul Jarrett is a Senior Special Agent with the United States Department of Homeland Security Office of Investigations Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He will present information regarding the IMAGE (ICE Mutual Agreement between Government and Employers) Program which was developed to combat unlawful employment and reduce vulnerabilities that help unauthorized persons gain employment. He will also provide guidance regarding the E-Verify system and update us on the increased I-9 audits being conducted.

10. Technology & Marketing in 2010 & Beyond

Mark Ress is a well-respected entrepreneur and speaker who is currently writing two books on "Digital Technology Marketing." He will instruct you on how to take advantage and leverage this technology for marketing your companies, products, services, and messages.

11. Demystifying Workers' Compensation

Vincenti A. Blas, Administrative Law Judge, will discuss how the Workers' Compensation system works, how employers get themselves in trouble and what happens at the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board. His goal is to make the presentation meaningful for attendees, not simply to throw out meaningless or difficult to comprehend "legalese."

12. Unemployment Insurance

Talbott Smith is the Deputy Director of EDD's Unemployment Insurance Branch. His career has spanned 34 years, and he has worked in both employment services and unemployment insurance and has served in all levels of staff and management in the UI program, along with five years of managing technology projects for EDD. Mr. Smith will provide tips on how employers can prepare for a UI hearing and how they can manage their UI accounts.
