The Employment Development Department is a multifaceted organization that provides quality services under the Job Service, Unemployment Insurance and Disability Insurance programs.

As the largest tax collection agency in California, EDD also handles the audit and collection of employment taxes (Unemployment Insurance, Disability Insurance, Employment Training and Personal Income Tax) and maintains employment records for more than 15 million California workers.

Employment Training Panel

The Employment Training Panel is a California State agency created in 1982 as a cooperative business-labor program to retrain workers. ETP was designed to fund training that meets the needs of employers for skilled workers and the need of workers for good, long-term jobs. This employer-supported training is used to improve the economic climate by training new workers and retraining workers in danger of being laid off as a result of technological advancements in the workplace, and because of foreign and domestic competition.

The Small Business Liaison is responsible for receiving and responding to complaints from small businesses and will provide technical advice and assistance in resolving problems and questions.

 

Welfare to Work, A Business Opportunity

"Welfare to Work, A Business Opportunity" is an Internet web site developed to provide employers with information about assistance and resources for hiring welfare recipients.

The web site provides information on welfare reform and welfare to work activities within the state. The site allows employers to pledge their support of California's welfare to work initiative and also provides employers with the option of being referred to EDD staff who can assist in hiring welfare recipients.

EDD has developed this web site to assist the employers of California in actively participating in the success of welfare reform.

The Senior Worker Advocate Office, formerly known as the California Task Force for Employment of Older Workers, has pledged to improve employment and training opportunities for senior workers forty and over and to raise public awareness of the issues and problems that confront senior workers. The office works directly with the public and the private sector to afford all senior workers in California access to employment-related resources.
